Most universities communicate in English on lectures, assignments, general communication and other co-curriculum activities. As a result, they require students to demonstrate their English proficiency. One of the most trusted English tests for students applying overseas, the Pearson Test of English is accepted by over 3,500+ universities and colleges globally. PTE assesses students’ English proficiency in speaking, writing, reading and listening. Canada, Australia, New Zealand and the UK are some of the countries that accept PTE scores. European countries like Austria, Belgium, France and Germany and Asian countries like Russia, India and Bahrain also accept PTE.
Conducted by Pearson PLC Group, there are 4 formats PTE students must know of – PTE Academic, PTE UKVI, PTE Core and PTE Home. PTE Academic is the PTE exam we all know of. Students can take the exam offline (in exam centres) or online (at home). Students, however, need to meet some physical requirements to take the test by themselves. The PTE UKVI is a Secure English Language Test (SELT) for candidates who wish to work, study, or live in the UK. Approved by the UK home office, it has the same format as PTE-A. PTE Core helps with getting permanent residency and citizenship in Canada. The PTE Home, different from the offline version of PTE-A, is accepted for family and work visas in the UK. It is further categorised as A1, A2 & B1.

PTE Results and Score
The score of the PTE Academic Exam is recorded on a scale of 10-90. The written component of the test avails the maximum score of 75, evenly allotted between all skills assessed. The scores, valid for 2 years, are issued online on the Pearson PTE website. Candidates can check theirs on their dashboard. The page is downloadable and sharable with family, universities and education consultants.
A PTE-A score of 50-60 is considerably decent. However, countries have different PTE score requirements. The UK accept a score of 59 and above, while Canada does 60 and Australia needs 42. The scorecard graph highlights improvement areas. Candidates seeking a higher score can identify where they lack and need more effort. Fortunately, they can take the test as many times as they like with a gap of at least 5 days. But if they are sure that they should have scored better, they can also request a rescore. As the test is computed-scored, only the spoken responses and open-ended written responses are taken into account for rescoring. Equally important, the request stands null if they have already scheduled a retest or shared the test score with any university.
Furthermore, universities do have their own admission criteria and requirements for PTE scores. If you are still to decide on the university you wish to apply to, connect with Studywise International for a FREE CONSULTATION.

Wear loose comfortable clothes and carry no valuable items. Reach at least 30 minutes before the exam so you don’t have to rush through the entrance process and sit for the exam with a clear and calm head.
