With a reputation that proceeds its name, studying in the UK goes far beyond the quality of education. Whether it is in London, Manchester or the other 13 cities ranked in the QS Best Student Cities 2024, being a part of a university in the UK is a dream.
Every year, the United Kingdom sparks this dream into a pair of 400,000 eyes. A dream of living abroad, going to a university where every day is a party and a happily ever after. A budding artist or a blooming entrepreneur, studying in the UK not only strengthens your career prospects but also opens doors to monumental work and life opportunities. We all have universities in the UK that we romanticise being in at least once. And yet, deciding where to go is a tedious task the school didn’t prepare us for. Comparing the pile of university brochures, one wonders if the valiant tan cos theta knew how to simplify this puzzle.
But with inflation shot up 10.4% the last year, is 2024 the right time to study in the UK? Well, nobody wants to repent and question their life choices scrubbing the floors in Buckingham Palace. Here are 5 reasons why it’d never come to that.
Globally Recognised Credibility
The QS World University Rankings 2023 listed 10 institutes from the UK that offer well-renowned education. The education model in the UK is strategised to deliver the guidance and mentorship students need to enlist in multi-national firms, or to, one day, become one. United Kingdom roofs 164+ universities, colleges and business schools — each ensuring government-set guidelines to build a valuable experience. With state-of-the-art infrastructure and facilities, these top-notch universities offer a vast range of courses that help one dwell in their interests.
As one of the leading destinations for scientific research in the world, they also offer seminars, conferences and original texts in several fields.
Flexibility and Duration
Universities in the UK offer the flexibility of subjects within courses so you pick what interests you. In this all-you-can-eat buffet, one only needs to carry an open mind to absorb knowledge. And the cuisines? Business, languages, social and biological sciences and so much more.
It gets even better. You can unravel an undergraduate degree in 3 years and a postgraduate in just 1!
Cost of Living
Already winning points with a shorter course time, education in the United Kingdom is derivatively inexpensive. To lessen your financial baggage, one can ponder over the scholarships available at all levels of education. Under the India Young Professional Scheme 2024, the UK government offers visas to 3,000 Indians to study, work and live on their lands. Institutes too offer full or partial funding for eligible candidates. Need extra cash? Unis enable students to work with them! Part-time work, in and outside the institutes, is often allowed on student visas availing students to work up to 20 hours a week during college term. In your leisure time, explore the cities filled with historical gems, art galleries, gasping landscapes and picturesque towns.
About 14% of the UK population was born abroad introducing an awe-inspiring diversity in culture, languages, faiths, cuisines and, to top the list, festivals. When living abroad, the highest cost one pays to achieve their dreams is the separation from their home. In the United Kingdom, you’ll feel just at home. As an international student, you are also eligible to get free medical treatments.
Placement and Packages
UK graduates are among the most employable in the world. The Global University Employability Ranking 2024 has witnessed the University of Cambridge as a consistent rank-holder in their list. Oxford University’s placement rate increased regardless of the global pandemic in 2021–22 with multiple graduates hired by Accenture, Alvarez and Marsal, Amazon, AMEX, IBM, SAPI, McKinsey & Company, and others.
The country is actively short on nurses, pharmacists, teachers and engineers roles.
Policies and Initiatives
The Mutual Recognition of Academic Qualifications (MRQ) signed between India and the UK in 2022 strengthens the bridge for students aspiring to study in the UK. The country has also committed to a Graduate Entrepreneur Visa (Tier 1) that allows graduates to set up their businesses in their market. The universities too assist international students in the development of networks that could accelerate their growth.
