Additional accommodation contract considerations

Check the yearly fee as well as the weekly fee because some contracts are longer than others.

When you confirm your lodging reservation, you are legally obligated to pay for the entire contract period.

While the halls do not need payment in advance, be sure to verify the installment dates. You must guarantee that you have sufficient funds to make the payments. Your student loan is usually not deposited until you have started your degree. While considering your alternatives and budget, consider the following links:

  • Student Finance Calculator
  • UCAS budget calculator

De Montfort University-owned/managed halls do not require a guarantor, but private suppliers may. If you do not have a guarantor, you may be required to pay the entire annual rent upfront (together with other fees such as booking deposits and damage deposits) before you can move in. (see specific tenancy agreements).

Late payment charges

  • There are no late payment penalties if you live in DMU-owned and managed halls.
  • You may be liable for court expenses if the debt is subsequently enforced through the courts.
  • Any outstanding bills to private suppliers may be subject to penalties.
